The Reality of Owning a Small Business

03/02/2023

Many of you know that owning a small business is both a challenging and rewarding journey. It’s not for the faint of heart, and it’s not something anyone should expect to be easy. Many small business owners will tell you that it can be one of the most difficult things they’ve ever done. But despite the challenges, owning Boss Squad Training is worth every uncomfortable moment.

One of the biggest challenges of owning a small business is finding the right balance between motivation and consistency. Motivation drives you to start and grow your business, but consistency keeps you going through tough times. Both are essential to the success of your business, but it’s important to understand the difference between them. Finding a balance between motivation and consistency has taken me a long time. I am still determining if I will ever truly succeed in maintaining that balance.

Motivation is the initial spark that ignites the fire of your business. It’s the reason you decided to start your business in the first place. It’s the passion and drive that keeps you going when things get tough. Without motivation, it’s challenging to start a business, let alone keep it going.

One important thing to remember when it comes to motivation is to back your goal with an emotional tie. Emotion is one of the biggest motivators. Connecting your goals to something you are emotionally invested in will make you more likely to stay motivated and driven to achieve them. I love fitness, wellness and supporting women, and working in this space is empowering.

Consistency, on the other hand, is what keeps the fire burning. It’s the ability to stay focused and keep working towards your goals, even when things aren’t going well. Like in the gym, consistency allows you to keep pushing forward, even when things are difficult. Without consistency, it’s easy to give up when things get tough.

One of the critical things that I wish I had known when I started my small business is that finding your foundations for motivation vs consistency and aligning your values is crucial to success. Understanding your values and what’s important to you will help you stay motivated and focused. It will also help you to stay consistent and keep working towards your goals, even when things aren’t going well.

Another challenge of owning a small business is dealing with the ups and downs. Small businesses are never reliable, and the journey can be like a rollercoaster ride without a seatbelt. There will be times when things are going well and other times when it feels like everything is falling apart. It’s important to remember that this is just part of the journey and to keep pushing forward.

It’s also important to remember that owning a small business can take years to become successful. Don’t jump the gun and expect success overnight. It takes time, patience and perseverance to build a successful business.

Remember yourself in the process. When life gets busy and the workload increases, it can be easy to neglect your own needs. But it’s essential to take care of yourself in order to maintain consistency and to be able to keep going.

Much like parenting, working out or eating well, owning a small business is challenging, but it’s also gratifying. It’s not something that should be taken lightly, and it’s not something that you should expect to be easy. But with the right mindset, values and motivation, it’s possible to build a successful small business.
